Dr. Mustafa Safi, MD is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in cornea, anterior segment, and comprehensive eye care. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is dedicated to restoring sight through advanced surgical innovation, compassionate care, and a deep commitment to education and service. Dr. Safi began his academic journey at California State University, Sacramento, where he graduated with honors in biochemistry, before earning his medical degree at the UC Davis School of Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, followed by fellowship training in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. With expertise spanning corneal transplantation, anterior segment reconstruction, advanced cataract and refractive surgery, Dr. Safi has brought pioneering surgical care to new communities—most notably by performing the first corneal transplant in Humboldt County, expanding access to vision-restoring surgery for patients in underserved regions. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Safi serves as faculty at the California Pacific Medical Center, where he teaches residents in both the clinic and operating room. His commitment to education also extends internationally, where he has participated in global medical service trips that emphasize the exchange of knowledge and surgical techniques, supporting the development of sustainable eye care systems in collaboration with local physicians.
